Poland’s top Army Generals have resigned ahead of next Sunday’s Polish elections, described by former Premier Donald Tusk as the most important since 1989.
The Polish Chief of General Staff, Gen Andrzejczak, and Operational Commander Gen Piotrowski have both resigned without giving official reasons. It is thought that they are concerned about the right-wing Polish government politicising the military.
Rzeczpospolita, a key Polish newspaper, has pointed to conflict between top military figures and the government; in particular Mariusz Blaszczak, Poland’s Defence Minister.
Opinion polls are narrowing in Poland ahead of its national election next Sunday.
